Yes. While currently are the handful of solar cell makers in India with a total capacity of around 8 GW, a number of solar companies have planned to setup solar cell lines. Around 30 Indian solar companies have announced setting up or expanding solar cell lines. If all announcements come true, India will have around 30 companies making solar cells by the end of 2027. The total production capacity from all these 30 companies is likely to touch 110 GW by the end of 2027.

Solar  modules are actually closer to an assembly process than manufacturing. All previous levels in the chain, from cells to wafers to ingot and polysilicon, are not made in India, other than a little captive capacity for solar cells with some manufacturers.  Most of these are imported from China and are then embedded into a panel in India. Thus, with a capacity of over 60 GW now, in future, all solar modules you see are likely to have been ‘made’ in India.
