In most states the maximum capacity of rooftop solar a person can install in upto the total capacity of your power connection (meter). As per the MNRE benchmark price, the total cost for a 3Kw system is Rs 1.45 lakh. However, the final cost of the project is mutually decided by the consumer and solar vendor. So despite the MNRE benchmark price which is not mandatory, the solar project vendors install a 3 Kw system often at higher price ranging from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh based on the technology, reputation of the vendor, services it is providing and other parameters.

The overall rooftop solar systems in India had been limited. However with the launch of PM Surya Ghar scheme with more capacities and easier application process, the residential rooftop solar system is likely to increase.

The main advantage of solar power is that it reduces our dependency on polluting sources of energy and helps us to reduce carbon footprints on the earth. More adoption of solar power can help us mitigating climate change, air pollution and global warming. The main disadvantage of solar power is that it does not produce power at night and thus need energy storage systems to store surplus energy. The intermittency somtimes affects functioning and stablity of the grid. Thus to counter these, in large projects, we need extra investments on energy storage.

If you are using UPS and battery for power backup, a new rooftop solar connection will not hamper the functining of your batteries and power backup. It will work like it used to work before the installation of rooftop solar.
