ALMM stands for the Approved List of Module Manufacturers. It is a list released by India’s Ministry of New And Renewable Energy (MNRE), and lists all the manufacturers whose modules are approved for use in solar projects in India.

Following a recent notification on March 27, the MNRE has made it clear that only ALMM approved modules can be used in all government backed projects, and even projects in Open Access and Rooftop solar. That means you could potentially use foreign modules (after paying a 40% customs/import duty), only in off grid solar projects that are not subsidised in any way, if at all.

For more coverage of ALMM and manufacturers there, do refer to SaurEnergy.com.

Yes,. This is a common practice in India. Even for the same technology—such as 540 Wp mono-PERC solar modules—different companies offer varying prices. Premium brands often charge higher rates due to their strong market reputation, extensive domestic and global certifications, and other factors.

One of the benefits of using solar panels for power generation is that unlike thermal energy, it does not emit green house gases during electricity generation. However, a latest study hinted a minor rise in local temperatures due to the use of inefficient solar panels.
